New Palestine, IN – The Lady Bulldogs made the trip up to New Palestine to take on the Dragons on Saturday with an early season test awaiting them.
The JV dug themselves a hole early that was ultimately too deep to dig out of. They battled back from a 15 point deficit in the 3rd quarter, but fell just short, final score 29-33. Leading the way in the scoring column for Batesville was Molly Gesell, with 13 points in the loss.
The Lady Bulldogs varsity tipped off immediately following and started hot right out of the gates, jumping out to a 12-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Continuing to fight on both sides of the floor, they took a 19-17 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs were outscored in the 3rd quarter, 8-14 and faced a 4 point deficit entering clutch time. Their efforts were not enough, falling 43-34 to the home team, New Pal Dragons.
Despite the loss, several Bulldogs stood out and had great performances. Sydney Campbell posted a near double-double with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 assist. Maddie Haskamp and Sophie Gesell both had 7 points, adding 11 rebounds, and 7 steals combined. Sophomore Nora Wiederman added 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Lydia Haskamp and Marlee Obermeyer finished off the well balanced scoring for the Bulldogs adding 2 and 3 points, respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs move to 1-1 on the season and will travel to South Dearborn to take on the Knights in an EIAC matchup on Thursday.
