Batesville Fire & Rescue honors excellence in service, longevity

(Batesville, IN) – Batesville Fire & Rescue held its annual awards ceremony last Saturday evening.

Lt. Dave Krause was named 2023 Firefighter of the Year.

Sam Carr was recognized as EMT of the Year.

The Chief’s Award went to Captain Matt Hertel, who also received a 25-Year Service Award.

Firefighter/EMT Jacob Speckman was honored with the 5-Year Service Award, while retired Firefighter/EMT David Fry was recognized with the 26-Year Distinguished Service Award.

The 50-Year Gold Card was presented to retired Firefighter Ed Gerdowsky.

And recognized as 50-Plus-Year Firefighter Service Members were Gerdowsky, Bill Wintz, Mike Gutzwiller, Francis Effinger, Ed Scheele, and Denis Schutte.
