Batesville ends boys soccer match early against Rushville

The Bulldog boys soccer team traveled to Rushville to compete in a varsity match against the Lions. Batesville coach Kyle Hunteman says his team took a quick lead when Eli Pierson distributed to Ethan Goodin inside the box for a close shot on goal. Just ten minutes into the match, some nearby storms caused a short delay before the teams could restart the action.

The second goal by BHS was scored off a corner from Emi Lopez and volleyed in by Ian Carpenter. Pierson ripped in the third goal with an assist from Carpenter. Next, Goodin laid off the ball to an overlapping run made by a defender, Willy Sherwood, who found the back of the net. The 5th and 6th goals were scored by brothers – Noah and Eli Pierson. The first half ended 6-0 as the Bulldogs had found quite the rhythm.

The Lions played with great physicality, but the Bulldogs were able to out-possess and control the field. Sherwood played to Goodin making a run up top with a through ball and shot on goal. Another goal was scored from a corner kick in a similar combination with Lopez and Carpenter. The match’s final goal was scored when Noah Pierson tapped the ball in under the goalie’s reach on a 1-v-1. That ended the game 9-0 due to the newly implemented mercy rule.

We thank coach Hunteman for the recap.
