The Batesville Middle School 7th grade volleyball team showed a lot of hustle and grit to come from behind to defeat East Central 18-25, 25-19, 15-13.
Miki Gutzwiller and Maci Smith each had 3 kills and Riley Balser chipped in 1 kill. From the service line, Izzy Dierckman had 10 points, and Carly Blanton had 7 points. Kiersten Luers added 6 points. Maci Smith chipped in 5 points. While Miki Gutzwiller added 4 points.
The team is now 5-3.
The BMS 8th Grade Volleyball Team came out flat vs. a scrappy and talented East Central team falling in 2 sets. Scores were 15-25; and 23-25.
The team mounted a great comeback in set 2 but couldn’t force a 3rd set. Molly Gesell was a bright spot from the service line for the Lady Dogs earning 7 points including 4 aces in 11 perfect service attempts. Abby Miller was 8 for 9 serving with 5 points including an ace. Katie Wilhelm earned 3 kills at the net in 12 swings. Gesell netted 2 kills, while Madi Dierckman, Jolene Dirkhising, Leah Lacey, and Maggie Jelinek each had one kill in the front line. Isabel Meyer led the team in digs, while Abby Miller was consistent in serve reception.
The team is now 6-2.
Both teams face St. Louis at home tonight.
