Batesville City Council suspends rules, adopts ARP-related ordinance on first reading

Batesville, IN — Batesville City Council voted last night to approve an ordinance that creates a fund to hold money the city would receive from the federal government’s American Rescue Plan. Mayor Mike Bettice says there are still a lot of questions about how much the city will receive and when it will be received, plus how the funds can be spent. The Mayor says he received word yesterday that the money could be distributed to cities, counties, and towns across the country as early as this week. Mayor Bettice added the city needed to establish a fund to put the federal dollars into and to hold on to until it’s decided how to invest or spend the money on future projects. Because of the possible immediacy of the federal dollars being distributed, Council voted to suspend the rules and adopt the ordinance on first reading.
