BATESVILLE, IN — Batesville City Council on Monday night passed two ordinances amending parking on portions of Central Avenue and Mulberry Street.

Batesville Community Schools Transportation Director Greg Ehrman expressed concerns to Council last month about incidents in which school buses ran into problems picking up and dropping off kids on Central.

Parking will be prohibited on the south side of Central at all times just east of Mulberry and extending 1,040 feet toward Park Avenue.

Meanwhile, parking will be prohibited at all times on the west side of Mulberry for 100 feet in front of the old Batesville Middle School gym.

The school corporation asked the city for help when an issue with school kids’ safety came up after sidewalks and flashing lights were installed in front of BMS in recent months.

Both ordinances were approved on First Reading after Council voted to suspend the rules.
