Batesville boys, EC girls win Greensburg CC Invite

Greensburg hosted its 48th Annual Greensburg Invitational Thursday.  The Batesville boys and East Central girls won the team championships.  Individual top honors went to Batesville’s Benjamin Moster (16:48) and East Central’s Rachel Campbell (20:27).

The following coaches provided event reports.

Greensburg’s Troy Davis:  Greensburg hosted its 48th Annual Cross-Country Invitational.  Batesville’s boys won the team title with 31 points. Ben Moster and Ean Loichinger went 1-2 to pace the Bulldogs to victory. The Pirates placed 3rd out of the 10 teams. Sophomore Jake Hawkins was Greensburg’s top finisher. Hawkins came in 4th overall in 17:46. Sawyer Sanders was 14th in 18:32 with teammate Cameron Schwartz taking 23rd in 19:15, his best time of the season.

Sophomore TJ Gorman ran 25th in 19:33. Nate Murray crossed in 19:36 for 28th. The next two finishers for GCHS were freshmen Paxton Harris and Brayden Emery. Harris had a time of 19:48 for 32nd while Emery finished in 20:21 for 38th.

Other Pirate finishers included Chase Tekulve (20:40), Bryant Merritt (20:54), Carson McCord (20:59), Wyatt Clifford (21:45), Vaughn Verzo 22:00, and Robert Browning (25:19).

East Central edged Batesville 29-32 for the girls’ championship. The Trojans’ Rachel Campbell won the individual race in 20:28. Senior Emily Mangels led the Lady Pirates to a 3rd place finish in the team standings. Mangels was 12th overall in 22:07. Freshman Tori Gauck had her best race of the season running a personal best 22:13 for 14th. Teammate Tiffani Gramman was next taking 15th in 22:22. Sophomore Hannah Crowell placed 19th in 23:18.

Malana Kramer recorded her fastest race of the year placing 28th in 24:57. Ally Foster took 34th in 25:58. Kylee Simpson ran a season best 27:49, and freshman Allison Kunze had a time of 28:13.

Batesville’s Lisa Gausman: Batesville finished the regular season at Greensburg for the Pirates 10-team invitational. The weather was very pleasant at race time, better than it has been pretty much all season.

The Bulldog boys brought home the championship trophy again, beating the field by 27 points. Batesville was led by seniors Benjamin Moster and Ean Loichinger coming in 1st and 2nd with Benjamin winning at 16:48. The Bulldogs next three were in the top 15 with Daren Smith at 7th, Jake Chapman 9th and Kyler Daulton 13th. Finishing the top 7 were Eli Loichinger in 30th and Benjamin Adams in 43rd. Benjamin was also the only Bulldog to race a personal best. Great job Benjamin.

The girls raced with two missing from their normal top 7 again. Although they all stepped up, East Central took advantage and ran really well and beat the Dogs by three, 29-32.

Leading the Bulldogs was Ava Hanson, finishing just behind East Central’s Rachel Campbell for the championship. Ava was followed closely by Kaylynn Bedel who placed 3rd. Then Maria Lopez and Megan Allgeier came through in 5th and 6th. Finishing out the top 5 was Madison Rahschulte, placing 16th.

Katie Olsen snagged the last ribbon spot, crossing the line in 20th. Ella Moster was the final Bulldog of the varsity squad who placed 30th.

Jen Dodge, Isabel Raab and Jada Eisert placed 5th, 6th and 7th respectively in the JV race. Way to go ladies!

Franklin County’s Stacey Nobbe: The Franklin County boys gave a solid performance at the Greensburg Invitational.  Senior Ben Maze the top finisher for the Wildcats with a time of 18:22 and placed 11th. Senior Adam Grant finished 16th in 18:45. Juniors Harmon and Hunter Marshall, both had season PRs. Their times were 19:12 and 20:18 respectively. Senior, Eric Schwab finished with 21:14. Sophomore Owen Darwish had another personal best with 21:57.

The Franklin County girls showed some improvement. Freshman Esther George placed 17th in 22:57. Senior Katherine Apsley finished in 26:37. Junior Kenzie had a great race and looked strong finishing in 29:01. Sophomore Moorea Nobbe improved greatly and finished in 30:38. Freshman Isabella Thiemann ran her best race ever and finished with a time of 30:49.
