Barn fire causes havoc for firemen

Elrod, IN — Tuesday evening, shortly after 5:30 pm, the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on South County Road 450 East for the report of a barn fire. Upon arrival, the large timber barn was fully involved in flames. Automatic mutual aid included the Milan Volunteer Fire Department and additional manpower, as well as a tanker, was requested from Versailles Fire Rescue.

Crews used efforts to protect the home on the property while battling a total of 12 fires which included 3 vehicles and 3 additional structures. This fire also created a brush fire approximately 1/2 mile downwind. Units remained on the scene of the incident until shortly after 9:30 pm.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Additional assistance was provided at the scene by the Ripley County EMS providing rehab support and Woods Excavating with helping with overhaul.
