Barbara Jean “Barb” Lucas

Barbara Jean “Barb” Lucas, age 64, of Moorefield, Indiana, entered this life on July 13, 1959 in Madison, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late John Ervin and Dorothy Louise (Andrew) Lucas. She was raised in Moorefield, Indiana and was a 1977 graduate of the Switzerland County High School. Barb was raised and baptized in the Long Run Baptist Church in Moorefield, Indiana. Barb was formerly employed for the Vevay License Branch and for Peoples Trust in Vevay, Indiana. Barb was employed in 1990 for Farm Service Agency, retiring in December 2022, after 32 years of service. She was an active 4-H leader and served on the board for the Switzerland County 4-H Fair. In 2021, Barb was selected to be Mrs. Switzerland County due to her dedication to the 4-H program. She was always there to lend a helping hand to others in her community. Barb also volunteered for the local food banks in Switzerland County. Barb was a former member of the Vevay Gamma Chi of Tri Kappa and served as past treasurer. Barb enjoyed spending time with her family and loved being a Granny to her grandchildren. In her spare-time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and baking, as well as, singing. Everything she did was with a smile and could always find a reason to laugh. Barb’s acts of kindness will be forever treasured and missed by her community. Barb passed away with her loving family by her side at 1:49 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Barb will be deeply missed by her sons, Andy Lucas and his wife, Shelby of Quercus Grove, IN and Willie Self of Moorefield, IN; Granny’s grandchildren, Ava Self, Adeleigh Lucas, Case Lucas, Weston Self and Archer King; her brothers, James William Lucas and his wife, Sharon of Rising Sun, IN and John Robert “Bob” Lucas and his wife, Debi of Moorefield, IN; her aunts, Nell Jaynes of Anderson, IN, Betty Lucas of Madison, IN, Mary Lucas of Moorefield, IN, Becky Lucas of San Antonio, TX; her special nieces, Randa Combs and her husband, Josh and family and Tiffany Wooten and her husband, Tevin; her several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; her faithful dog, Lily and her lifelong best friends, Donna Tinker of Fairview, IN and Lorrie (Carfield) LaPenna of Vevay, IN.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Ervin Lucas, died December 24, 2015; her mother, Dorothy Louise (Andrew) Lucas, died November 17, 1968; her infant sister, Ruth Ann Lucas, died April 20, 1961; her sister-in-law, Nancy Kay (Burgess) Jellison Lucas, died May 19, 2009 and her great-nephew, Luca James Wooten, died January 25, 2020.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2024 and from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2024, by Pastor Pat Lanman, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
