Barbara A. Lecher

lecher2Barbara A. Lecher, age 72 of St. Mary’s, died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at her home.  Born April 30, 1944 in Franklin County Indiana, she is the daughter of Anna (Nee:  Brandes) and Valentine “Jack” Simmermeyer.   She married Thomas Lecher May 9, 1962 at St. Mary’s of the Rock Church in St. Mary’s, Indiana.  Barbara was a homemaker and a member of Holy Family Church.

Barb was very talented.  An accomplished quilter, she also crocheted and her children and grandchildren all have pieces she made for them that are treasured family heirlooms.  Her family indicated she was a good baker, especially her pies, and a great cook.  No matter what she made, it was all good.  Until recent years, she would put out a large garden and can the excess to be enjoyed during the winter months.  While Barb wasn’t much for watching television, she did like putting together jig saw puzzles.  The Smokey Mountains were a favorite destination for her and she and Tom would visit several times a year.

She is survived by her husband Tom; daughters and sons-in-law Shirley and Marlin Stenger of Brookville, Indiana, Valerie and Greg Caudill, Wendy and Jim Weisenbach, all of Batesville; sons and daughters-in-law Gary Lecher, Rick and Melissa Lecher, Mike and Christy Lecher, Sam and Nicole Lecher, Frank and Kim Lecher, Tony and Toni Lecher, all of St. Mary’s, Marvin and Natalie Lecher of Batesville; sisters Jackie Armbruster of Aurora, Indiana, Melly Allgeier of Greensburg, Indiana, Rosie Weisenbach of Morris, Indiana, Martha Simmermeyer of St. Mary’s; forty three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Janet Hartman; sister Doris Doll and brother Frank Simmermeyer.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at the Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services are 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 17th, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg, with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M., officiating and burial will follow at St, Mary’s of the Rock Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice.  Online condolences can be made at www.weigelfh.com.
