August F. Ries, 84, of Dillsboro, Indiana, formerly of Finneytown, OH, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, in Florence, Kentucky.
He was born February 4, 1937, in Clifton, NJ, son of the late August Ries and Mary (Dernar) Ries.
He graduated from Purcell High School, class of 1955. Aug worked as a salesman at SC Johnson, Cincinnati, Ohio for 17 years, and as an Owner/Operator for Merries Foods, retiring after over 21 years of service.
He enjoyed reading, attending auto shows, and traveling. Aug loved Jazz music and he was very interested in sailing ships. He loved to work outside on the farm. He loved animals, and adopted several, including his dog, Maisie. Aug was on the Dearborn County Animal Shelter Board. He was also instrumental in getting the George Street Bridge reopened.
Aug is survived by his loving spouse Janice(Bolton) Ries; children, Jeff Ries of Dillsboro, IN, Christine (Shane) Clift of Dillsboro, IN; siblings, Helene Vigdahl of St. Paul, MN, Andrew Ries of Cleveland, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rosemarie Pierce, Veronica Ries;
Friends will be received Saturday, August 21, 2021, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana.
Services will be held at the funeral home, at 2:00 pm.
Interment will follow in the River View Cemetery, Aurora, Indiana.
