Area counties see December jobless rate drop to around 1 percent mark

SOUTHEASTERN IN — The unemployment rate for all four Southeastern Indiana counties dropped to around the 1 percent mark in December.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says Franklin County had the lowest jobless rate in the area at 1.0 percent, which was down from 1.6 percent the month before.

Meantime, Dearborn, Decatur, and Ripley counties all checked in at 1.1 percent.

Dearborn County was down from 1.8 percent in November; Ripley County fell from 1.7, and Decatur County dipped from 1.6 percent.

All four area counties were below the state average of 1.3 percent for the month of December.
