WAYNE COUNTY, Ind.–An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a man who was wanted on a felony warrant in Wayne County.
In the early morning December 29, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the tip indicated that Stewart Guthrie was hiding in the basement of a home while being possibly armed. Police say they tried to get Guthrie to surrender peacefully, but he refused.
Other people in the home were evacuated and the Richmond SWAT Team was called in to help. After they showed up, they tried talking to Guthrie. Eventually, he was pulled out of the basement closet and arrested.
“This successful operation highlights the professionalism and determination of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in ensuring public safety. We are grateful for the assistance provided by the Richmond Police Department to accomplish the safe resolution of this operation,” said Sheriff Randy Retter.
Guthrie was wanted on a level 5 felony warrant for unlawful carrying of a handgun.
