Andrew Abbott throws 8 shutout innings in Cincinnati’s series finale win over San Francisco

Reds rookie Andrew Abbott shined in yesterday’s 5-1 series finale win over the San Francisco Giants. In 8 innings of work, the 24-year-old struck out 6 and allowed just 1 hit.

The game remained tied at 0 until the bottom of the 3rd when Reds catcher Luke Maile hit a two-run home run.

In the fourth, the Reds would score two more runs off thanks to a Christian Encarnacion-Strand single and Will Benson double to take a 4-0 lead.

Cincinnati would make it a five-run advantage in the fifth on a Jonathan India single to left.

The lone run for the Giants came in the top of the ninth when Giants 1st baseman Wilmer Flores homered.

With the win, the Reds improve to 52-46 on the season. They currently sit in 2nd place in the NL Central, 2.5 games behind first-place Milwaukee.

Luke Maile had a great game at the plate, batting 3-4 with a home run and 2 RBI.

The Reds open up a 3-game home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks this evening. Coverage on 103.9 WRBI begins at 6:40.
