Alleged tipsy trucker blamed in U.S. 52 accident in Franklin County

Franklin County, In. — A Thursday morning crash involving a suspected intoxicated semi truck driver closed U.S. 52 for about four hours.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department says at 8:23 a.m. Gary M. Wyatt, 55, of Knightstown, was eastbound on U.S. 52 near Richland Creek Road hauling a load of granular fertilizer when he ran off the north side of the roadway. The truck hit a culvert and guardrail, then rolled, spilling its load.

During the investigation deputies and emergency workers determined Wyatt was not injured but did show signs of impairment. He was transported to Margaret Mary Health for toxicology testing.

U.S. 52 reopened right before noon. The investigation is ongoing.
