Algar Collins, of Osgood

A familiar face of the Deleware community passed away on Monday September 10, 2018 surrounded by his family.  Algar Collins was born on March 6, 1936 in Knot County Kentucky, the son of the late Arthur and Rachel (Young) Collins.  He grew up in Kentucky along with his 3 brothers and sisters.  Algar learned early on the value of working and providing, he left school early and went home to work the farm.  Along with his father they grew produce and took to local markets and sold the product, this provided enough savings for him to eventually purchase a farm from his parents.

Algar loved every aspect of farming and nature.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting mushrooms and gathered a great deal of ginseng over the years.  His family had moved to the Ripley County area and he met Margaret (Bolt) and the two of them raised a family on Old Milan Versailles Pike, outside of Deleware.  They were blessed with 4 children; Scott, Andy, Jacquey, and Rachel.

Algar spent 40 plus years working at Union Furniture in Batesville starting there when he was only 14.  He oversaw sanding and finishing of the furniture and provided training to others.

Algar is survived by his daughters Jacquey (Tim) Osborne of Osgood and Rachel (William Littrel) of Madison, also daughter in law Roxanna Collins of Osgood, along with 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by Margaret (Bolt) Collins, both sons Andy and Scott Collins, brothers Clarence, Elwood, and James, and sister Shirly Crowell, along with significant other Alene Lemarr.

Visitation will be held on Saturday September 15, 2018 from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm. with funeral services being held at 12:00 pm.  all services will be held at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.  Burial will follow at Little Memory.
