Greensburg, IN — Due to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funding shortfall, likely resulting from unforeseen complications from the CARES Act and the Coronavirus pandemic, the Greensburg Municipal Airport expansion has been paused for 2020.
After the Greensburg Aviation Board received bids for the Greensburg Municipal Airport runway project, a grant application was submitted to the FAA on June 30 in the amount of $4,689,212. This grant would cover the professional services, as well as the construction of the grade and drain package of the new runway. This grant request was under the planned program amount of $5,055,997.
On July 24, the FAA notified the Greensburg Board of Aviation that the Airport Improvement Program was running out of discretionary funds much faster than expected. The Greensburg Board of Aviation has developed a ‘Plan B’ minimum funding plan to utilize the airport’s Non-Primary Entitlement funds. The ‘Plan B’ request would be for $374,416, which would cover professional services, approach surveying for the future runway approaches, and a partial land acquisition reimbursement. ‘Plan B’ will also ensure the local community expenses are covered in the event the original $4,689,212 grant is unable to be funded.
