Accident leaves semi-truck submerged in Flatrock River

St. Paul, IN—Decatur County Communications received reports of a wreck on I-74 near the mile marker 127 Saturday afternoon. Emergency responders arrived on scene to find a semi-truck had gone off of the roadway and into the Flatrock River.

The Semi driver was retrieved from the river and due to weather conditions was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital. Officers believe that a black passenger car hydroplaned, was struck by the semi, and the impact caused the semi to leave the roadway. Both occupants of the black car were transported to Decatur County Memorial Hospital. I-74 westbound was shut down to one lane due to clean up and retrieval of the semi for several hours. If traveling the interstate, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department urges you to use caution and always yield to emergency vehicles.
