Ripley County resident Johnathon Baas, 12, suffered a tragic accident in May when his foot was nearly amputated by a riding mower. His foot was 98 percent severed when he arrived at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
His father, Danny Baas, is an EMT at Tri-County Ambulance and Rescue 30. He said, “For Children’s Hospital to take a foot that was 98 percent severed and reattach it, so that there is actually feeling and blood flow there, it’s a miracle.”
While Johnathon has kept a positive attitude, the bills have stacked up for the family.
As an EMT, Danny has no medical insurance. There will be a benefit for Johnathon this weekend and the proceeds will go to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
“We just can’t let those doctors go unpaid. We could file bankruptcy and be done with it, but absolutely not,” Baas said.
“I will do everything in my power to make sure they get every dollar they deserve,” he added.
The benefit will be held at Milan Community Park on Warpath Drive. A motorcycle ride will kick off the events at 11:00 a.m., and interested riders are welcome to join.
The ride will be back to the park around 4:00 p.m. and the benefit will start with dinner. Pulled pork dinner, hot dogs and hamburgers will be served at 4:00 p.m.
Danny Baas said there is something for everybody to do while at the benefit. There will be live music throughout the evening, a silent auction and the 3D wood carvers. Adults can enjoy a cold beverage from the beer garden as well.
The benefit will have plenty to do for the younger crowd too. There will be kids games, a bouncy house and a dunk booth.
The community is invited to attend and support Johnathon and his family.
Donations are also currently accepted at Mainsource Bank under Johnathon Baas Medical Fund. All donations go straight to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
