A Batesville man has been arrested for criminal recklessness with a firearm following a stand-off with police.
Early Sunday morning, the Batesville Police Department received a 911 call from a female on Columbus Avenue reporting her boyfriend broke into her house and was intoxicated.
When officers responded, they heard screaming coming from the residence, then heard a gunshot.
Officer’s immediately entered the residence where they encountered Evan Freese, age 26, armed with a 9mm handgun. After a brief stand-off, Freese was taken in to custody.
The female told officers that during the altercation she ran to a bedroom where her small child was sleeping and held the door shut.
She stated Freese then fired a shot through the bedroom door.
Officer’s observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the door.
They also determined that the bullet went through the mattress where the young child was sleeping.
Freese was arrested for Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm – Shooting into a Dwelling, a Level 5 Felony, and incarcerated at the Ripley County Jail.
