The Batesville HS Freshman baseball team finally got to play their first game of the season defeating Greensburg 14-9.
It was a home game against Greensburg, and Batesville wasted no time in getting on the board. Two runs in the first were scored by Austin Siefert and Nathan Eckstein. Greensburg scored 3 runs in the top of the second, but Batesville countered that run by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the third. Austin Siefert scored on a single by Devon Scripture and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Garret Lee. Nate Slavin was safe at first by a fielding error on the Greensburg first baseman and worked his way around the bases, scoring on a passed ball. Braydon Worthington used a 7 pitch at bat to draw a walk as did Matthew Meehan. Devon Meeks laid down a perfectly placed bunt and scored Braydon and Matthew. Greensburg countered yet again with 1 run in the top of the 4th inning, but Batesville fought back again scoring 3 more runs in the bottom half of the inning. With the score 10-4 in favor of Batesville, Greensburg put 5 runners across the plate in the top of the 6th to tighten the game at 10-9. Not to be out done, Batesville scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to give a little cushion to relief pitcher Austin Siefert. Austin got Greensburg to go down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th giving Batesville the win 14-9.
The next game for the freshman is this Saturday (4/23) at Roncalli HS for a doubleheader.
