The Batesville Bulldogs beat Rushville on Tuesday 8-0 in the season home opener at Liberty Park in seven innings.
The Batesville Bulldogs got on top early and did not look back, as they scored three runs in the first on a two-run single by Jacob Wilson, senior, and a passed ball.
Trey Heidlage, freshman, had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the first and sixth innings.
Wilson also recorded the win for the Batesville Bulldogs. He tossed five innings of shutout balll, striking out seven, walking four and surrendering only two hits.
The Batesville Bulldogs were sparked by pre-season Junior All-American, Zach Britton, who played his first game of the season after returning from injury, and Heidlage, who teamed up for five hits and three RBIs.
Caleb Wiles of Rushville was charged with the loss. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
The Batesville Bulldogs got two-run rallies in the fifth inning and the sixth. In the fifth, the Batesville Bulldogs scored on an RBI single by, sophomore, Zack Blomer, scoring Christian Prickel.
The Batesville Bulldogs piled on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. A double by Britton ignited the offense, bringing home Heidlage. That was followed up by Jacob Christie’s single, plating Britton.
This makes the Bulldogs 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in EIAC play. The Bulldogs will visit North Decatur to take on the Chargers on Thursday, April 14th.
