Ruth L. Holtegel, age 87, of Dillsboro, passed away Saturday, march 12, 2016 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. Ruth was born on October 6, 1928 in Guilford, IN; the daughter of Richard and Florence (Gipson) Collier. She graduated from Guilford High School in 1946, and on January 11, 1948 she was united in marriage to Norman Holtegel. Ruth was a hard worker; she sewed her own clothes, did crafts and needlepoint, and loved re-decorating her home. She was an avid baseball and basketball fan, and followed the Cincinnati reds baseball team. Her children and grandchildren were a very special gift to her, and sh did anything she could for them. An immaculate dresser, she always looked impeccable and was what anyone would call a “classy lady”. Ruth was a long time member of Dillsboro United Methodist Church, and was very active in church activities for several years. Her husband, Norman Holtegel, who passed away in 2009, opened a service station business in Dillsboro for many years, and who kept the books for the business until it closed. Besides her husband, Norman, Ruth was preceded in death by 2 granddaughter, Dawne and Reagan Heller. Surviving is her son, Bradley Holtegel, of Dillsboro; 3 daughters, Becky (Mike) Heller, of Aurora, Bonnie (Nick) Kretler, of Fountaintown, IN, and Brenda Kellenberger, of Urbana, OH; 2 brothers John Collier, of Hanover, IN, and Bob Collier, of Versailles; 8 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, and 14 step great grandchildren. The funeral service for Ruth will be Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11:30 am at Dillsboro United Methodist Church, with her pastor, Rev. Mona Safley officiating. She will be laid to rest in Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro next to her husband, Norman. Friends may meet her family on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 5-8 pm at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. For a more lasting memorial, friends are asked to consider the United Methodist Women’s group at Dillsboro United Methodist Church or the Oakdale Cemetery Trust Fund.
