Elizabeth “Betty” Katharyn Mcglone (May 17, 1923 – February 12, 2015) The Osgood community lost a very familiar face Saturday evening, February 12, 2016. Elizabeth “Betty” Katharyn McGlone passed away at Manderley Health Care in Osgood with her family by her side. Betty was born on May 17, 1923 in Sciotoville, Ohio, the daughter of the late John L. and Luella (Kinnamon) Rhodes. Early in her career in the late 1950’s, Betty worked at U.S. Shoe in Vanceburg,Kentucky. This employment led her to an unexpected change. Betty was asked to move to Osgood and help with the local U.S. Shoe. Out of this move, the community was able to get a business jewel. Betty worked and also founded the long time business known as “Betty’s Shop.” When the store was started in 1963, she was involved in every aspect of the operation. It would be fair to say if you have ever worn a tuxedo in Osgood, Betty was probably involved. The store was recently sold earlier this year by Betty’s daughter. Many people ventured through the doors throughout the years and were always met with great conversation. She truly appreciated the patrons. Whether they were there for a tan or tuxedo, she wanted to make sure they had the best experience possible. It was a business that was supported by this community, and she showed her support back. Betty was quick to remember a face, and everyone was always her friend. Betty was past president of the Business and Professional Women Club of Ripley County, a past member of Entre Nous Club, and a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting and the works of local artists in the Ripley County area. Betty is survived by daughter Priscilla Sutton of Osgood, five grandchildren, six great- grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Louis Bennington; brothers Benjamen, Robert, and Owen Rhodes, and sister Eloise Ellis. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter Kellie Turnbow. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. also at the funeral home. A short service and burial will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Wheelersburg Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio. Memorials may be made out to the Osgood United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home. www.nealsfuneralhome.net
