Local Entities Receive Road, Bridge Funds

(Kokomo, IN) – Eleven area cities, counties and towns are among 346 Indiana communities receiving nearly $110 million in state matching funds to improve infrastructure.

Governor Mike Braun presented the $109.9 million in INDOT Community Crossings Matching Grants on Wednesday during the 43rd Annual Indiana MPO-IARC Conference in Kokomo.

“Good roads and bridges are essential to strong communities and a growing economy,” said Gov. Braun. “This funding ensures hundreds of Indiana communities have the necessary resources to make improvements that Hoosiers will see and use every day.

“What makes Community Crossings work is that local governments have skin in the game,” Braun added. “They’re investing alongside the state to get these projects done, making roads safer, supporting local businesses and creating more opportunities for communities across Indiana to grow.”

Local recipients and amounts are:

  • Batesville – $281,440.00
  • Brookville – $210,638.56
  • Decatur County – $305,179.02
  • Franklin County – $339,592.22
  • Greensburg – $132,456.80
  • Milan – $321,070.40
  • New Point – $300,317.84
  • Osgood – $296,344.00
  • Ripley County – $355,385.60
  • St. Paul – $197,702.76
  • Westport – $271,790.27

Communities submitted applications during the FY 2027 call for projects in September. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund.

“More than $2 billion in matching funds have been awarded for local road improvements since 2016,” said INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist. “Community Crossings is a testament to the strong partnerships between INDOT and local communities that help provide safe, efficient transportation infrastructure for our cities, towns and counties.”

The Indiana General Assembly identified long-term funding for Community Crossings as part of House Enrolled Act 1002, passed in 2017.

Following recent legislative changes to the program, the matching grant cap is now set at $100 million per year, and the annual cap is reduced to $1 million per local unit of government per state fiscal year.

State officials say cost favorability has allowed INDOT to exceed the annual $100 million cap the past two fiscal years.
