Withdrawal Leads to Co Council Vacancy

(Greensburg, IN)  – A late withdrawal has created a vacancy for a Decatur County Council seat representing Greensburg precincts 6, 7 and 8, and Washington Township.

Under Indiana law, the vacancy will be filled by county Republican Party chairman Nate Harter through an appointment process.

Interested candidates must live in the district and have a primary voting history showing participation in two consecutive Republican primary elections.

Applicants are asked to submit a resume, letter of interest, or other supporting documents by email to nharter10@gmail.com no later than 5 p.m. Friday, October 30.

Over the ensuing weekend following the application deadline, the chairman will consult with precinct chairs representing the district.

Harter says the successful candidate will be appointed on the Monday before Election Day.

He adds the appointee’s name will not appear on the November 3 General Election ballot but will assume the position of Decatur County Council member on January 1st, 2027, since there is no opposing-party candidate for the seat.
