(Batesville, IN) – WRBI and 5 Oaks Garden Center in Batesville teamed up for the “Return of the Biggest Bloomer” Giant Veggie Contest.
It was the first year the contest happened under 5 Oaks’ new owner Blake Belter, who took the reigns from the business’s founders Matt and Marla Maple earlier this year.
This year’s winner for the largest watermelon is Linda Borgman, whose entry weighed 34 pounds, 13 ounces.
Doug Emsweller’s tomato entry checked in at two pounds, four-and-a-half ounces.
The largest potato belongs to Greg Schmidt at one pound, 13 ounces.
Belter says this year’s largest cabbage was the biggest they’ve ever had in the contest by over seven pounds.
It weighed 37 pounds, two ounces and was grown by Jeff Zimmerman.
The biggest sunflower bloom was 18 inches, entered by Lucy West.
WRBI and 5 Oaks Garden Center started holding the Giant Veggie Contest in 2005 – the year Belter was born.
