(Greensburg, IN) – It was a record year for the Greensburg Fire Department chili supper.

Firefighters served more than 60 gallons of chili, along with hot dogs and peanut butter-and-honey sandwiches.

The department raised nearly $3,400 in donations at the event.

Half of those donations will support the Kathy Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Decatur County Community Foundation.

Kathy Reynolds, the wife of Assistant Chief Ron Reynolds, passed away earlier this year.

GFD says she loved the chili supper and volunteered each year, helping make it the success it is today.

The department says supporting the scholarship fund is a meaningful way to honor her memory and her dedication to the chili supper.

In addition, firefighters say the first coloring contest was a success.

Winners from pre-K through fifth grade represented Good Shepherd Christian Academy, Greensburg Elementary and St. Mary’s School.

Chief Nathan Stoermer presented awards to most of the winners.

“Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered and helped make this a record year,” reads a statement from GFD. “We’re grateful for your support of our fire prevention efforts and the opportunity to bring our community together.”

The chili supper is held each year on the Friday of Fire Prevention Week.
