(Greensburg, IN) – The Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County is launching a new community event.
“Talking Tombstones” will take place Saturday, October 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at South Park Cemetery.
Organizers say you can wander the grounds and visit 15 historically significant tombstones where costumed characters will give their real-life stories.
Each stop will take up to five minutes.
You’ll hear from Greensburg’s founder Thomas Hendricks; the Tree City’s first librarian Bessie Monfort; Elizabeth Finnern, who dressed as a Union soldier during the Civil War so she could serve alongside her husband, and is the only woman buried on the cemetery’s Soldiers Circle; other war heroes such as Ira Grover and Jack Shriver, and many more.
Admission is a free will donation, with all proceeds benefitting the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County.
You can attend any time during the event.
It will take about 90 minutes to make all 15 stops.
Guides will be present to direct you.
