(Decatur County, IN) – Local authorities are out with a warning about scammers claiming to be with the Decatur County Detention Center and targeting inmates’ families.
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says the scammers appear to be using publicly-available inmate information so they can contact families.
They have recently pretended to be with the sheriff’s office or detention center and tried to convince the families to provide credit card information or money to purchase Apple monitors and other electronic equipment.
The sheriff’s office stresses deputies and detention center personnel will never contact family members requesting money, credit card information, or the purchase of electronic products.
If you received such a call, hang up immediately and contact the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.
