(Batesville, IN) – The Southeastern Indiana YMCA recently recognized team members Brie Schlienz and Wally Peralta with the Service and Outstanding Achievement Recognition (S.O.A.R) Award.
The award honors staff who go above and beyond in their roles through exceptional service, dedication and contributions to the Y community.
Schlienz, a member of the Y’s Welcome Center team, was nominated by Community Director Amber Rossman for the enthusiasm, creativity and genuine care she brings to the Y and its members.
“Brie’s buy-in was instant, and so was her love for the Y and the people here,” said Rossman. “She began looking for ways she could do even more—asking if she could decorate the front, create crafts and put her own time and energy into making the Y an even more welcoming place because she saw an opportunity to help.”
Rossman said Brie’s impact extends beyond the projects she takes on.
“I’m so grateful to have someone like Brie on our team. She motivates other people not just through her words, but through her actions. Her enthusiasm and willingness to give of herself are contagious,” Rossman said.
Peralta was nominated by Membership and Operations Director Tameeka Sizemore for consistently going above and beyond to support members, participants and fellow staff.
“Wally took the initiative to earn his lifeguard certification and regularly comes in on his own time to continue developing and strengthening his lifeguard skills,” said Sizemore. “He works a shift every morning before school and is always one of the first to pick up shifts to support his coworkers and help ensure we have adequate staffing.”
Peralta has also expanded the ways he can serve at the Y by cross-training in swim instruction so he can assist with swim lessons when needed.
“Wally has proven himself to be responsible, dependable and committed to helping wherever he is needed,” added Sizemore. “Even while balancing significant responsibilities outside the Y, he continues to give his time and energy to support our members, participants and staff. His positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to go the extra mile make him a valuable member of our team and an excellent example of the Y’s core values.”
“Brie and Wally demonstrate the kind of care and commitment that makes our Y such a special place,” said Tara Britton, Chief Executive Officer of the Southeastern Indiana YMCA. “Whether it’s creating a welcoming experience for someone walking through our doors or stepping up wherever help is needed, their actions strengthen our team and the community we serve.”
