James F. Knight, 88, Brookville

James F. ‘Jim’ Knight, age 88, of Brookville, Indiana died early Saturday, October 3, 2026 at his residence surrounded by family, following a brief illness.

Born July 2, 1938, in Brookville, Indiana he was the son of the late Howard & Esther (Butler) Knight.  On August 7, 1959 he and the former Alice J. Hollenbach were united in marriage, and she preceded him in death on February 6, 2003.  He later married Lynn Hill, and she survives.

Jim retired from Kroger where he had been employed for many years.  In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and taking care of his home and property.  He was an avid follower of Indiana University Basketball.  He was known by friends as ‘Turtle Jim.’

In addition to Lynn, his loving wife of over 20 years, survivors include three children, Melody (late, Mike) Johnson of Brookville, Indiana, Eric (Susan) Knight of Cedar Grove, Indiana; and Holly Knight Hodges of Brookville; two step children, Joy Hill (Tim VanMeter),  Dusty (Amy) Hill all of Brookville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Christy (Matt) Cunningham, Jason Nobbe, Garrett Wade Knight, Ella Leigh Knight, Graham Montgomery Hodges; three step-grandchildren, Andrew Peters, Austin Hill, Ashlin Suding; as well as two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.  He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Richard ‘Dick’ Hollenbach of Brookville.

In addition to his parents and first wife of 44 years Alice, he was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Hires, his son-in-law, Michael Johnson, as well as a brother & sister-in-law, Edward & Jane Hollenbach.

Family & friends may visit from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Brookville United Methodist Church, 150 E 8TH Street, Brookville.

Rev. Dr. Andrew Suite, pastor of the Brookville United Methodist Church, will officiate the Funeral Service at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Brookville United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.

Immediately following the committal service at Maple Grove the family will gather at the Brookville United Methodist Church, where everyone is welcome to join them for a meal.
