Oldenburg Academy boys soccer knocked off Richmond 5-1 on the Red Devils’ home pitch. It’s the Twisters’ 12th straight win. Connor Holder scored four goals while Augie Hillenbrand added the other. Goalie Ryan Hautman recorded two saves. Ray Walke and Damien Brelege both recorded a non-keeper save. OA’s record is 13-3 heading into sectional play vs. Union County next Thursday at Jac-Cen-Del.

At the 19-team Greensburg Cross Country Invitational, the host Pirates won the girls race with 29 points. Batesville was 4th with 93. In the boys race, the Bulldogs placed 8th with 228. Lawrence North ran away with the team championship with 23.

Batesville Middle School swept both ends of the Ripley County Middle School Cross Country Meet at Jac-Cen-Del. It was the Bulldog girls with 10 points, followed by South Ripley with 44. Milan and Jac-Cen-Del did not field complete teams. BMS 6th grader Molly Walter was the individual champion. Batesville took the boys race with a perfect 15. South Ripley, Milan and Jac-Cen-Del were incomplete.  7th grader Cristian Peralta was the boys meet individual champ.

South Ripley is the back-to-back 8th grade champion of the SEI Middle School Volleyball Tournament. The Raiders defeated Batesville in three sets (25-20-SR, 25-19-B, 15-5-SR) for the title Thursday night at Greendale Middle School.

It’s Week 7 of the high school football season and we have a pair of games tonight on the Sports Voice. Greensburg and Batesville renew their longstanding rivalry at the Dawg Pound. Elsewhere around the area, Franklin County welcomes South Dearborn for Homecoming; Class 1A #4 Milan entertains Providence in a rematch of last year’s Regional; North Decatur is home against Union County; South Decatur makes the trek to Switzerland County; and Rushville is at Class 3A #2 Lawrenceburg.

Derek Johnson will not return as Cincinnati Reds pitching coach. Johnson took a personal leave of absence in June. President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall said in a statement that the team wishes Johnson the best, and that a search for a new pitching coach will begin immediately. The 54-year-old Johnson became the Reds pitching coach before the 2019 season after three years with the Milwaukee Brewers in the same position. He was promoted to director of pitching prior to the 2022 season.

The Las Vegas Aces eliminated the Indiana Fever 94-83 in the decisive Game 3 of their WNBA first round playoff series last night in Vegas. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 23 points. Aliyah Boston added a double double: 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Fever end the season at 28-16.

Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson is the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September. McPherson converted all eight of his extra point tries, and was 8-for-8 on field goal attempts.
