F. Marilyn Strasburger, 91, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at her home.
Marilyn was born on May 14, 1935, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the daughter of Howard H. and Mary M. (Welsch) Schertzinger. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Morgantown in 1953. On June 22, 1963, she married William Ray “Ninebucks” Strasburger. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1986.
Marilyn worked in the Decatur County Clerk’s Office at the Decatur County Courthouse for many years before retiring in 2000. She also spent many years caring for children in her home as a babysitter, at one time caring for as many as 16 children.
She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Marilyn was active in Girl Scouts for many years, serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and Neighborhood Chairman. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella and a past State Regent D of I member. She was a member of the Modern Trends Home Economics Club and was a past board member of St. Elizabeth’s Home in Indianapolis.
Marilyn enjoyed crocheting, crafts, reading, and playing cards, but she especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She loved watching them participate in their own sporting activities and was always proud to cheer them on from the sidelines. She was also a lifelong fan of West Virginia University athletics and enjoyed watching the Mountaineers compete in all sports. After a Mountaineer victory, she could often be heard singing “Country Roads.” Her love for her family, her favorite teams, and the simple joys of life will be fondly remembered.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Laurie (Gene) Ruble and Diane Strasburger; grandchildren, Shawn Ruble, Samantha Strasburger, and Sabrina Strasburger; step-grandson, Scott Ruble; step-great-grandson, Jacob Ruble; brother, Howard Schertzinger; sister, Anne Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard H. and Mary M. Schertzinger, and her husband, William Ray “Ninebucks” Strasburger.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
