(Batesville, IN) — Margaret Mary Health has recognized two team members for making a difference for patients and their colleagues.
Julia Samples, RN, received the DAISY Award for exceptional nursing care and compassion, while Materials Management Manager Bob Fegley received the BEE Award for his work supporting patient care.
Compassion during an emergency
Samples was nominated by one of her maternity patients after what began as a labor journey unexpectedly became an emergency C-section.
“What began as a labor journey quickly turned into an emergency C-section, and in those moments of fear, uncertainty and overwhelming anxiety, Julia was my steady anchor.”
The patient said Samples showed compassion not only toward her, but also toward her baby girl and husband.
The DAISY Award is an international honor created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. His family established the award after being inspired by the clinical skill and compassion shown by his nurses.
Helping make the move happen
The BEE Award recognizes non-nursing Margaret Mary Health employees who distinguish themselves by creating a positive workplace and making a difference in the patient experience.
Fegley was nominated by Margaret Mary Health’s surgery team, which credited him with helping make the hospital’s recent transition to its new facility successful.
“If it were not for Bob, our recent transition to the new hospital would not have been as successful as it was.”
The surgery team said Fegley devoted countless hours to the transition and is consistently willing to help others, including tracking down answers when he does not immediately have them.
How nominations work
Margaret Mary Health presents the DAISY and BEE awards twice a year. Patients, family members, providers and staff may submit nominations.
The nominations are blinded before being sent to an internal committee for consideration.
