Vernon Lawrence Munchel, age 77 of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville, Indiana. Born July 22, 1949, in Batesville, Indiana, he is the son of William and Janette (Dierckman) Munchel. He married Constance “Connie” Enzinger on July 31, 1976, at Batesville United Methodist Church.
Vernon was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, an Army veteran during the Vietnam War, and was a lifelong farmer, before retiring.
Vernon found great joy in helping others, especially when they needed a helping hand with remodeling projects. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball, football, and basketball. Above all, he especially loved watching the Cincinnati Reds. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his love of sports, and the many special memories he created with those he loved.
He is survived by his wife Connie Munchel of Greensburg; daughter Pam (Mark) Ford of Greensburg; sons Scott (Sarah) Bingham of Milroy; Brian (Kelly) Munchel of Glenwood; Mark (Tammy) Munchel of Shelbyville: and Matthew (Brianne) Munchel of Connersville; brother Darrell (Carol) Munchel of Franklin; sister Charlene Whittaker of Batesville; brother-in-law Art Nobbe of Greensburg; grandchildren Brandon Springmire, Kayla Springmire, Tyler Skiles, Destiny Bingham, Camren Munchel, Briley Munchel, Kile Munchel, Peyton Munchel, and Jerrimiah Munchel; great- great grandchildren Bennett Munchel, Kash Munchel, Kai Munchel, and Ryker Skiles.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his sister Elaine Nobbe.
Visitation is Friday, October 2nd, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 3rd, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Fr. Jayaraju Bandari officiating. The burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery, with military graveside rites being conducted by the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 of Batesville.
