Batesville’s Alexis Gallagher and Stella Maple qualified for the IHSAA Girls Golf State Finals as individual golfers following their performances at Saturday’s Regional at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin. Gallagher shot a 74 while Maple carded an 82 and advanced via playoff. As a team, the Bulldogs finished fourth out of 15 teams with a 342. Franklin County edged Greensburg for the 11th spot at 411 through a tie-breaker.
Batesville volleyball won the eight-team Greenfield-Central tournament on Saturday, defeating the host Cougars in two sets in the championship match, 25-23, 25-16. The Bulldogs win that tourney for the second year in a row, and did not drop a set all day. BHS had wins over Pike, Covenant Christian and Whiteland to advance to the title match. The Bulldogs are now 21-4. Maddie Haskamp, Brooke Wilhelm and Maggie Jelenik were named to the all-tournament team.
Oldenburg Academy cross country ran in the Hope Heritage Classic on Saturday. The Twisters’ Josie Wenning was second among girls individual runners with a time of 20:47. On the boys side, OA’s Carson Hartwell was third at 16:58.
Batesville girls soccer went on the road and defeated Madison 4-1. Addie Reding, Sydney Britton, Maddie Prewitt and Marley Denning found the back of the net for the Bulldogs. The JV squads played to a scoreless tie in one half of action.

Fever guard Caitlin Clark has been named the Associated Press WNBA Comeback Player of the Year. Clark missed most of last season with various injuries, but came back strong this year, averaging 22.3 points, 8.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 40 games. In addition, Clark and Fever backcourt mate Kelsey Mitchell were named to the AP All-WNBA First Team.
