(Statewide) – Franklin, Decatur, Dearborn and other counties in Indiana are still dealing with the damage from last month’s severe storms and flooding, and millions of dollars in disaster aid are now reaching families who need help.
At least seven people died in the storms, which also damaged homes, businesses and roads across the state.
FEMA says more than 25,000 applications have been approved. So far, the agency has sent $102 million to Indiana. People affected by the storms have until October 25 to apply for federal assistance.
The state is also providing help. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says about 1,700 Hoosiers have received nearly $7 million through the state’s Disaster Relief Fund.
The average payment is about $3,800, with a maximum of $5,000 per household. More than 750 applications have been denied because they didn’t meet the program’s requirements.
