(Decatur County, IN) – Nearly 80 volunteers took part in the Decatur County United Fund’s (DCUF) recent Day of Caring.
The volunteers completed 17 service projects across the county, with a wide range of local organizations benefitting from the support.
These include Greensburg Community Bread of Life, Decatur County Family YMCA, Decatur County Youth Baseball, Greensburg Adult Center, Greensburg Decatur County Animal Shelter, Head Start, Historical Society of Decatur County, Letts Volunteer Fire Department, Westport Kiwanis Club, Tree County Players, and Carousel Play and Learn Center.
DCUF officials say this year’s student volunteers brought exceptional enthusiasm to the day.
North Decatur High School, was led by student director Jayden Lawrence, while student director Taylor Somers led the South Decatur High School team.
Organizers say they showed outstanding leadership and teamwork.
Greensburg High School, under the leadership of student director Addi Bennett, will complete its project later this fall due to construction delays.
For the first time, Day of Caring featured a blood drive.
Organizers say the blood drive, held outside the DCUF and Decatur County Community Foundation offices, provided an additional opportunity for residents to give back, support their neighbors, and strengthen local health resources.
“Experiencing my first Day of Caring has been truly inspiring,” said Blaire Hornberger, Executive Director of Decatur County United Fund. “I am incredibly proud of our Student Directors—Taylor, Addi, and Jayden—who put in extra effort to organize their teams and lead with such maturity and heart. Their dedication sets the tone for the entire event. I’m equally grateful for our Board Members, Tony McLaughlin, Angie Reynolds, and Nick Wallpe, who rallied their groups and made sure every project had the support it needed. Their leadership reflects the best of who we are as a community.”
