(Statewide) – The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) will begin issuing additional SNAP benefit replacements to Hoosiers in Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin and 16 other counties whose food spoiled during power outages on August 11.
Gov. Mike Braun directed FSSA to apply for an Automated Mass Replacement waiver through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Administration.
FSSA received federal approval on Thursday, September 17.
In addition, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) is funding an additional 30 days of emergency hotel vouchers through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).
The Governor’s Office says this extension will ensure displaced Hoosiers have more time to recover and will be largely funded by FEMA under the Public Assistance Program.
- August 5, 2026, through August 9, 2026: Replacement Percentage – 60%
- July 19, 2026, through July 23, 2026: Replacement Percentage – 30%
- July 11, 2026, through July 17, 2026: Replacement Percentage – 15%
SNAP replacement benefits will be added directly to eligible recipients’ EBT cards on or around September 26, 2026. Because Governor Braun prioritized a streamlined response, SNAP recipients do not need to complete paperwork, contact FSSA, or visit a local Division of Family Resources office. Eligible households will receive their replacement benefits automatically. If a household already received replacement benefits up to their maximum allotment, they will not receive any additional benefits.
The state estimates that approximately 36,533 households qualify for replacement SNAP benefits, representing up to $10 million in federal support. Households that have already applied for and received replacement benefits prior to the waiver approval are not eligible for additional replacement.
