(Batesville, IN) – Batesville Police Lt. Danny Hamilton has been presented the Life Saving Award for his actions during an incident this summer.

It was on Sunday, June 26 when Batesville Fire and Rescue and the police department received a report of a man who was choking and not breathing.

Lt. Hamilton was the first to arrive on the scene and noticed the man was unresponsive and laying on his side in front of a couch.

Hamilton immediately sat the man in an upright position and performed the Heimlich Maneuver on him.

After several thrusts, the food the man was choking on was dislodged and he regained consciousness.

“Without the quick actions of Lt. Hamilton, it is certain that the life of a Batesville citizen would have been lost that day,” the Batesville Police Department wrote in a statement.

For his actions, Hamilton was presented the Lifesaving Award.
