Oldenburg Academy boys soccer won its seventh in a row, beating Franklin County 4-nil in Brookville. Connor Holder scored two goals, Adam Weber added another, and Twister freshman Gage Sacksteter scored his first career goal. OA outshot the Wildcats 37-2. The Twisters improve to 8 and 3.
Batesville cross country wins both the team and individual championships at the Ripley County Meet. The Bulldog girls posted a perfect 15. Ava Wade crossed the finish line first at 21:12. The Bulldog boys won the team title with 22. Levi Essick was the individual champ with a time of 18:18.
Batesville girls golf defeated Greensburg 179-211 at Hillcrest. Bulldog sophomore Stella Maple took medalist honors with a five-over-par-40.
In boys tennis, it was Batesville over Rushville 3-2 on Senior Night at the Dawg Pound. The Bulldogs’ #1 doubles team of Will Patterson and Wes Peters secured the victory in a thrilling three-set match that was won on a tiebreaker. BHS improves to 13 and 2 overall and 4 and 1 in the EIAC.
Batesville and St. Louis middle school volleyball split the Crosstown Shootout played on the Cardinals’ home court. The Bulldogs won the 7th grade match in three sets, 25-22 (B), 25-24 (SLS), 15-7. St. Louis claimed the 8th grade match, also in three sets – 25-22 (SLS), 25-23 (B), 15-13.
The Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the Cincinnati Reds 4-0 at Great American Ball Park in a game heard last night on WRBI. Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto and two relievers held the Reds to three hits. Yamamoto gave up one hit with two walks and seven strikeouts over seven scoreless innings. Elly De La Cruz extended his on-base streak to 22 games with a two-out double off Yamamoto in the 3rd inning. The starting pitching matchup in game three of the series tonight features a pair of lefthanders. Andrew Abbott (6-11, 4.78 ERA) makes the start for Cincinnati. LA counters with Blake Snell (4-1, 1.91). Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 FM.
Catcher Jose Trevino is the Reds nominee for MLB’s Roberto Clemente Award. It’s given annually to a player “who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” The winner of the Roberto Clemente Award will be announced during the World Series next month.
