(Decatur County, IN) – More than 300 5th graders came to the 33rd annual Decatur County Ag Day at the Fairgrounds to learn abut different aspects of agriculture and safety from local experts.
Ag Day is hosted by the Decatur County Soil & Water Conservation District and Decatur County Farm Bureau.
Organizers say the goal of Ag Day is to educate and expose students to safety and the many aspects of agriculture including past, present, and future technologies.
A few weeks before Ag Day, each 5th grader submits a design to be considered for the t-shirts that students will wear to the event.
This year’s theme was “250 Years of Freedom, Farming and Feeding America.”
Organizers say they couldn’t narrowed the choice down to just one design, so two designs were combined.
Congratulations to Olivia Hoeing and Lanceton Dickman from St. Mary’s School.
The t-shirts were given to all 5th graders, teachers, FFA members and presenters.
Local experts spent the day discussing animals, agriculture and safety.
Students rotated through 21 stations learning about safety: electrical, gun, fire, lawn mower and first aid; animals, including horses, dairy cows, beef cows, sheep, pigs, bees (pictured), poultry, meat goats, goat products, rabbits, animal nutrition and veterinary medicine, and other part of agriculture, such as FFA, grains, drones, and tractors.
