(Versailles, IN) – Versailles residents are invited to attend the 170th birthday celebration for Jim Tyson on Monday, September 14 at 7 p.m. in the Tyson Methodist Church sanctuary.
Nine local nonprofits will receive gifts from the Tyson Fund totaling over $766,000.
Residents are encouraged to attend and vote on the projects.
The man known as “Uncle Jim” used Walgreens stock in 1930 to set up a trust fund that specifically benefits the residents of his hometown.
The distribution is made annually on Mr. Tyson’s birthdate, which is September 14.
“Mr. Tyson’s gift to Versailles and its citizens helps in many ways,” reads a statement from Tyson Fund Trustees. “Please stop by the Tyson Methodist Church sanctuary on this wonderful evening and witness what he continues to give us.”
