(Metamora/Laurel, IN) – Survivors of this month’s severe storms and floods will be able to meet directly with state, county and FEMA teams at Mobile Registration Intake Centers (MRIC) starting today (Friday, August 28).
One of those centers is set up at the Metamora Church of God today and tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A second MRIC will be set up at the Laurel Library from 8:30 to 6 next Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1.
Representatives will provide in-person assistance, answer questions, and help homeowners and renters apply for FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program.
Survivors should file an insurance claim first. Those with homeowners, renters or flood insurance should file a claim before applying for FEMA assistance.
FEMA does not duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If a policy doesn’t cover all disaster-related expenses, survivors may still be eligible for federal support.
Homeowners in Franklin, Decatur and Dearborn plus 18 other counties who sustained uninsured damage or losses due to this month’s storms, tornadoes and flooding may now apply for FEMA disaster assistance.
Those who have already applied for State Disaster Relief Funds must also submit an application for FEMA disaster assistance to be considered for federal support.

Applicants should remain alert for potential fraud. FEMA representatives will never request payment to complete an application. Hoosiers should only use disasterassistance.gov, the helpline or visit a Mobile Registration Intake Center (MRIC) to submit an application. Suspected fraud can be reported to StopFEMAFraud@fema.dhs.gov.
