(Aurora, IN) – On Thursday, August 20, the students and faculty of Fiat Classical Academy (FCA) joined with St. Mary’s Parish as they celebrated the inaugural Catholic Mass of the school year.
While they join St. Mary’s for Mass every Thursday, the first Mass of the school year has added significance for the school.
During this Mass, the faculty at Fiat Classical Academy made a profession of faith and an oath of fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church (pictured).
This tradition of taking an oath is part of a growing trend of new Catholic schools around the country fostering a renewal of Catholic education. This was evidenced by the recent Front Royal Statement signed by over 40 Catholic bishops, higher education leaders, and superintendents as a result of an education summit at Christendom College.
The profession and oath is a public declaration of each teacher’s belief in the fullness of Truth revealed by Jesus Christ and faithfully passed on in and through the Catholic Church. Each teacher, in front of the school and congregation, affirmed their commitment to providing an authentic Catholic education in each academic discipline to every student who comes to Fiat Classical Academy.
“We desire to make the profession and oath because we know that everything a Catholic school does must spring from the firm foundation of the Catholic Faith,” says Brad Macke, Head of Mission.
The faculty at Fiat know that every subject they teach helps students understand the world as a work of creation and understand that the center of human life is a relationship with God.
The education at Fiat Classical Academy is more than just teaching students in preparation for the future.
Their education helps students build a fully integrated life with Jesus Christ at the center by teaching them the art of living through their four educational pillars: cultivating wonder, encouraging encounter, fostering integration and seeking excellence.
Pope St. John Paul II, who is the patron of Fiat Classical Academy, wrote it this way:
“Jesus Christ, our Saviour, offers his light and his hope to all those who promote the sciences, the arts, letters and the numerous fields developed by modern culture. Therefore, all the sons and daughters of the Church should become aware of their mission and discover how the strength of the Gospel can penetrate and regenerate the mentalities and dominant values that inspire individual cultures” (Ex Corde Ecclesiae, Conclusion, 1990).
As the new school year begins in earnest, Fiat Classical Academy is excited to be in their third year and prepare to graduate their first senior class.
They will be offering Shadow Days starting in September, and will host an Open House on November 5.
