
Mary Lou Powers, 83, of Dillsboro passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026, at UC Medical Center in Cincinnati. Mary Lou Powers was born on Thursday, August 20, 1942, in Milan; daughter of Christopher James Powers and Viola Louise (Snyder) Powers. She graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1960 as Valedictorian of the class. She began working June 9, 1962 at the Dillsboro State Bank. Retiring October 31, 2010, after 48 years with 20 years as the Branch Manager for Dillsboro and Moores Hill locations. Mary Lou was very involved in her community as she became a member of Dillsboro Town Council in 2001, served several years as council president, and retired from council on December 31, 2022. She was a member of numerous committees including being a member of Dillsboro Civic Club for more than 50 years Dillsboro Zoning and Planning Commission, Ross Foundation Board of Directors, Beautification of Dillsboro, Dillsboro Volunteer Life Squad, Oakdale Cemetery Board, and Dillsboro Main Street. She was named Dillsboro Outstanding Citizen in 1978, given the Golden Hoosier Award for volunteer work on June 3, 2016, selected as a Women of Distinction in 2014, and was inducted into South Dearborn Academic and Career Hall of Fame in 2014. Mary Lou loved gardening and flowers, loved animals, and always had a cat that she loved.
Mary Lou will be missed by her sister-in-law Carol Powers of Painesville, Ohio; nephew Daniel (Shannon) Powers of Stow, Ohio; niece Kathleen (Nick) Walker of Austin, Texas; great-nephews Connor Powers, Aidan Powers, Ethan Walker, and AJ Walker; and great-niece Madeline Walker.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents Christopher and Viola Powers and brother Larry James Powers.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Mary Lou from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. A rosary service will be held prior to visitation at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2026, Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home with Father Shaun Whittington officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given in honor of Mary Lou to Oakdale Cemetery Endowment Fund, PAWS of Dearborn County, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
