Olus L. Dixon Jr., 92, Milan

Olus L. Dixon Jr. of Milan passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026. He was born on February 5, 1934, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana; son of Olus Dixon Sr. and Lilly (Burnett) Dixon. He married Wilma June (Hoppmire) Dixon on August 24, 1956, and she survives him. He served proudly in the United States Army from 1956 through 1958 at Fort Benning in Georgia and Fort Lewis in Washington. Upon returning to Milan, he went back to his job at Alton Box in Aurora. He retired from the box plant after its closing in the late 80’s and farmed full time with his family until passing. He enjoyed working with his children and grandchildren’s 4-H livestock projects and attended many county and state fairs throughout the years. He was one of the oldest lifetime members of the Milan Wesleyan Church and attended until his health would no longer allow it. He held many offices in the church throughout the years.

Olus will be missed by his wife June Dixon of Milan; sons William (Tammy) Dixon of Milan, Steve (Sandi) Dixon of Milan, and Dr. David (Lisa) Dixon of Rensselaer, IN; sisters Carol Sullender of Anderson, IN and Mary Ann Hawrwell of Louisville, KY; grandchildren Jeremy (Amber) Dixon of Milan, Rebecca (Cory) Franklin of Burlington, KY, Justin (Heidi) Dixon of Holton, Andrew (Carissa) Dixon of Armington, IL; and Luke, Libby, and Eli Dixon of Rensselaer, IN; great-grandchildren Colt, Paxton, and Lilly Franklin and Makenzie, Stella, and Drew Dixon; and many nieces and nephews.

Olus was preceded in death by his parents Olus Dixon Sr. and Lilly Dixon; sister June Jackson; sister-in-law Betty Barton; and brothers-in-law Harold Jackson, Robert Sullender, James Harwell, and Estel Barton.

Family and friends may gather in remembering Olus from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2026, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home with Pastor Paul VanCise and Retired Colonel Dr. Gary Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Sinai Cemetery with military rites provided by the Milan American Legion Post #235. Memorials may be given in honor of Olus to Milan Volunteer Fire Department or Fisher House.
