Batesville Middle School cross country got past St. Mary’s by identical 27 to 28 tallies on Monday in Greensburg. Bulldog 8th grader Emmalynn Allgeier placed second overall in the girls race. BMS 7th grader Simon Brelege was second overall in the boys race.
The Reds and St. Louis Cardinals split a doubleheader in downtown Cincinnati heard Monday on WRBI. St. Louis took the opener 2-1. Dane Myers’ solo homer in the fourth inning accounted for the Reds only run. Cincinnati was held to three hits, and struck out 15 times…The Reds came from behind to cage the Cardinals 6-5 in 10 innings in the the nightcap. Myers tied the game with a pinch hit homer in the bottom of the ninth, and Elly De La Cruz delivered an RBI single that scored ghost runner Tyler Stephenson with the winning run in the 10th. It was De La Cruz’s first career walk-off hit. Game three of the series is tonight. Lefty Andrew Abbott (6-7, 4,13 ERA) starts for Cincinnati. Righthander Kyle Leahy (9-4, 3.38 ERA) goes for St. Louis. Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 FM.
The Indiana Fever make their first ever trip to Toronto tonight to face the expansion Tempo in WNBA action. Indiana has won four straight and eight of its last 10. Tipoff is at 7:00.
The Indiana Pacers have signed former Purdue star Braden Smith to a two-way contract. The Pacers traded for Smith last month during Night Two of the NBA Draft after he was selected 38th overall by the Chicago Bulls. Smith averaged 6.8 points, 7.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds in five appearances with Indiana during the NBA Summer League this year.
