(St. Leon, IN) – The East Central FFA chapter has been awarded a $3,000 Yearlong Living to Serve grant.
The nationwide program provides grant money to local FFA chapters to support yearlong service-learning projects that address needs related to community safety; environmental responsibility; hunger, health and nutrition; and community engagement.
East Central FFA plans to help address wildlife conservation to help native bird species by constructing at least 100 eastern bluebird houses, 20 wood duck nest boxes and 10 barn owl boxes.
Many places in Southeastern Indiana lack nesting areas for these species.
Through the construction of these nesting boxes, students will contribute to conservation while educating the public about habitat preservation and environmental stewardship.
Houses will be provided to landowners and community agriculture and conservation groups at no cost.
